Windows 11 is the main version of the Windows NT operating system developed by Microsoft. Windows 11 was announced on June 24, 2021, and is expected to be released at the end of 2021. It is the successor to Windows 10 released in 2015. Windows 11 will be upgraded to compatible Windows 10 devices through Windows Update for free.
Windows 11 Overview
At the 2015 Ignite conference, Microsoft employee Jerry Nixon stated that Windows 10 will be “the last version of Windows.” Microsoft confirmed that this statement was a “reflection” of its views.
The operating system is considered a service, and new builds and updates will be released over time. However, in January 2021, Microsoft released a job list that mentioned the “full visual renaissance of Windows,” which sparked speculation about a new version or redesign of Windows. According to reports, the Windows Visual Update developed under the code name “Sun Valley” aims to modernize the system user interface.
The Windows 11 name was accidentally published in the official Microsoft support document in June 2021. Later on June 15, 2021, leaked images of the Windows 11 desktop beta version allegedly surfaced on the Internet, and then the above version was leaked on the same platform.
The screenshot and the leaked version show an interface similar to the cancelled Windows 10X, as well as a redesigned out-of-the-box experience (OOBE) and Windows 11 branding.

New Start Button
The start button has been moved from the bottom left corner to the bottom centre of the screen. The taskbar icon has also been moved to the bottom centre.
These changes should make it easier to find what you need.
However, at least for now, the taskbar will be fixed at the bottom centre and cannot be moved, which is different from previous iterations of Windows.

DirectStorage from Xbox will also enter Windows 11, so the game loads faster. Microsoft’s game subscription service Game Pass will be built into Windows 11 through the Xbox application, so gamers will have hundreds of games that they can play at any time.
Redesigned Store & Introduction of Android Apps
The company said that the Microsoft Store in Windows 11 has been redesigned to find what you need faster. On the one hand, it looks neater and less cluttered.
Microsoft unexpectedly added that with the help of Intel and Amazon, Android applications will land on Windows 11. Users can search for the apps they want from the Microsoft Store through the Amazon App Store and install them.

Windows 11 Home Edition requires an Internet connection and a Microsoft account to complete the device set up the first time you use it. There might be additional requirements over time for updates, and to enable specific features within the operating system.

DirectStorage: NVMe SSD is required to store and run games that use standard NVM Express controller drivers and DirectX12 GPU that supports Shader Model 6.0.

What it means for Developers
Although today’s Windows 11 announcement is clearly focused on consumers, some of the biggest news is for a different audience: developers who need to support the platform to be truly successful.
“Today, we will show you the next era of Windows and how we can use Windows [as] an open platform,” Microsoft’s Kevin Gallo wrote. “This means that everyone has open access to the most extensive applications that run on Windows, enabling all developers to build applications and experiences, and enabling users to create, learn, and play.”
Here are five key themes:
The new Windows Store: The new Windows Store in Windows 11 will support more application types than the current store, which supports Universal Windows Platform (UWP), .NET, Win32 (desktop) and PWA Web applications, although these application types will be Improved brilliantly. But the biggest news is that Android apps have been added from the Amazon store. New features of native Windows applications. Project Reunion was officially named the Windows App SDK and will be released later this year. The new ARM64 Emulation Compatible tool will enable developers to build applications that run natively on Windows on ARM and using ARM64EC, developers can mix native ARM and emulated x64 code in the same process and module.
User Interface: WinUI3 supports the new Windows 11 UI with circular geometric figures, refreshed icons, new typography, micro-interactions (such as Lottie animation), and refreshed colour palettes. Microsoft pointed out that new materials like mica also add meaningful hierarchy.
Improvements for game developers: Microsoft’s Game Development Kit (GDK) will be made publicly available for free on GitHub. The GDK includes the tools, libraries, and documentation needed to build games for the PC and adds to the collection of game stack technologies Microsoft provides today to help developers create, publish, monetize, and expand their games. New gaming technologies that were previously only available on the console will also be available in Windows 11, including DirectStorage and Auto HDR.

Microsoft has confirmed that the new Windows 11 will be available for a free upgrade to all compatible Windows computers. The new Windows has minimum hardware requirements.
